Over 40,000 Signatures in support of H.R. 200 and H.R. 198 Delivered in Washington D.C.

DC Petition delivery

Long-time EMERGENCY USA supporters and human rights activists, Shiva Sharif and Graziella Costanzo, deliver over 40,000 signatures to Rep. Ed Royce in D.C.

This fall, EMERGENCY USA launched a peace campaign with two petitions through CREDO and Causes in support of H.R. 200 (The Responsible End to the War in Afghanistan Act) and H.R. 198 (The Repeal of the Authorization for Use of Military Force Act). We collected over 40,000 signatures of individuals, who want a future without war, and hand delivered them to Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA13) and Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA39) to make our voices loud and clear.

Our first petition in support of H.R. 200 introduced by Rep. Barbara Lee, was hand delivered to Congressperson Lee’s office in Oakland on October 7, 2013, the 12th year anniversary of the war in Afghanistan.

On the week of December 16, 2013, long-time EMERGENCY USA supporters and activists, Shiva Sharif and Graziella Costanzo, hand delivered both petitions in Washington DC to the Committee on Foreign Affairs office, where H.R. 200 was stalled despite gaining 40 cosponsors and where Rep. Ed Royce resides as Chairperson.

With your signature, our petitions could help save the lives of millions and allow us to improve the health of many more. H.R. 200 would accelerate the end of the war in Afghanistan by requiring funds allocated to the armed forces in Afghanistan to be used only for the safe and orderly withdrawal of all U.S. military personnel and Department of Defense contractor personnel in Afghanistan. As the sponsor of H.R. 198, Congressperson Barbara Lee has said, “My bill already has more than thirty congressional co-sponsors. But public show of support for this effort is critical now.”

Thank you to the 40,329 people, who signed and invited friends to participate, for supporting the end of the war in Afghanistan and acting in solidarity with our fellow civilians and their children in Afghanistan, Iraq and other areas where endless war is being waged by the executive branch of the United States Government.
