Saving One Life at a Time in Afghanistan

Baby Nafisa being treated at Anabah Maternity Center in Afghanistan.

Nafisa is the fourth child of a poor family from Anabah Village. Her mother needed a Cesarian section at week 30 of her pregnancy. Nafisa’s birth weight was only 1900 grams (4.1 lbs).

Soon after birth she developed a mild respiratory distress due to the premature birth. EMERGENCY doctors treated Nafisa at the Anabah Maternity Center with a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (C-PAP) machine. After only four days, Nafisa’s general conditions improved and she was discharged after two weeks in good health.

The C-PAP machine was acquired thanks to a grant from the Khaled Hosseini Foundation, which EMERGENCY USA received in 2013. We want to say thank you to all our supporters, donors, volunteers, board members for their hard work and remind them of the impact their commitment has on the lives of so many, including baby Nafisa.
