EMERGENCY and TAMassociati, an Italian architecture firm, received the 2013 Curry Stone Design Prize for innovative, socially-responsible design. The prestigious award recognizes designers and organizations who address critical social needs, championing the belief that design can be a powerful force for improving lives and strengthening communities. The collaboration between TAM and EMERGENCY produced sustainable, beautiful, high-quality medical facilities in war-torn communities throughout the world.
The Curry Stone video below features the Salam Center for Cardiac Surgery in Khartoum, Sudan. The Salam Center, which opened in April 2007, was the first collaborative project between EMERGENCY and TAMassociati.
The prize-winning work of EMERGENCY and TAM is currently on display in an exhibit of Curry Stone Design Prize winners at the AIA San Francisco Center for Architecture + Design Gallery until July 31. Visit to learn more about EMERGENCY and TAM’s design achievements.
