Last month, the Minister of Health in Afghanistan came to visit our Lashkar-gah Surgical Center. We showed her the wards and introduced her to our staff. In the photo below, she is talking to a little girl hit by a bullet in the chest.
The fighting in the area has intensified in recent weeks and we are treating more and more victims of war. The Minister praised EMERGENCY‘s work, recognizing the organization as a model of good health care in a country devastated by war.
This visit was also an opportunity for us to reiterate the importance of the right to medical care for all individuals, and also to emphasize the skills of our Afghan staff: both medical and non-medical, men and women.
