On February 4th, we screened the 2013 Academy Award nominated short documentary Open Heart at University of Washington in Seattle. Open Heart tells the story of eight Rwandan children who leave their families behind and embark on a life-or-death journey to receive high-risk open-heart surgery in Africa’s only free-of-charge, state-of-the-art cardiac hospital, our Salam Center for Cardiac Surgery in Khartoum, Sudan.
EMERGENCY USA board member Kyler Hunter and EMERGENCY USA Seattle Volunteer Coordinator Ed Digilio answered questions after the screening. We’d like to thank Kyler, Ed, and all who attended for making this event possible and publicizing the work of EMERGENCY and the Salam Center.
