Zunia and Recognizing International Women’s Day

“I learn a lot, and through the experience of working daily with the international staff, I continually improve my skills. But most of all I help people: the many women who do not have any other opportunity to give birth safely. I help my country.”
—Zunia, gynecologist at our Maternity Center in Afghanistan

On this International Women’s Day, we’d like to highlight the work of Zunia and the many other women who make our international programs possible. The UN’s theme for IWD 2015 is “Empowering Women – Empowering Humanity,” which calls attention to the fact that the empowerment of women is something that benefits all of us and leads to improvements throughout society. The work of Zunia and her peers doesn’t only benefit the patients they care for, but also themselves, their families, and their communities.

If you would like to support the work of Zunia and other local staff providing high standard, free-of-charge healthcare, click here to donate now.
