EMERGENCY Nurse Being Treated in Italian Hospital After Testing Positive for Ebola

730dea7b-196e-41bc-816c-19fe2ba2f98dA nurse in Sardinia who recently returned from working at our Ebola Treatment Center in Sierra Leone has tested positive for the disease. As soon as the first symptoms appeared on Sunday night May 10th, he enacted the isolation procedures as outlined by both Health Ministry protocols and EMERGENCY‘s own guidelines. The worker monitored his condition at regular intervals ensuring a quick intervention and avoiding any possible contagion.

It should be noted that the Ebola virus is only contagious after the onset of the first symptoms, and it’s only passed on via direct contact with body fluids.

The nurse is good general condition and has been flown in biocontainment to the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases in Rome, Italy, where he’ll receive the necessary medical treatment.

Further updates on the state of health of our colleague will be made every day by the Spallanzani hospital. EMERGENCY will not issue any further statements for the time being in order to safeguard the privacy of the patient and of his family.

We also call upon journalists to respect the family’s wishes.

To help and protect our staff as they fight the spread of Ebola in Sierra Leone
